The existing street lighting systems face several challenges such as high electricity consumption, continuous wastage of power when roads are empty, and complete shutdown during power cuts. Dust and dirt reduce the efficiency of solar-powered lights, increasing maintenance costs. Moreover, current streetlights do not provide any emergency alert feature for people in danger, nor do they utilize the rainwater that simply flows away unused. These issues together lead to energy loss, safety risks, and inefficient use of natural resources.
The Smart Eco-Friendly Street Light works by using solar panels to charge a battery during the day and a rainwater turbine to generate extra power during rainfall. At night, the light automatically dims to 50% when the road is empty and brightens to 100% when a person or vehicle passes by, saving energy. Rainwater also cleans the solar panel to maintain efficiency, while excess water is stored underground. In emergencies, a button on the pole activates a blinking light, buzzer, and GSM alert system, making this streetlight both sustainable and safe.
